In social studies, students will learn more about Australia- with a focus on the economy.  Some terms are review terms, and we discuss how they apply to Australia.
Terms to Know:  economy, command, market, mixed, capital, human capital, products, agriculture, exports, entrepreneur

In science, students will watch a digital lesson on managing resources- Earth's natural resources.  They will review topics related to environmental issues that we have discussed in social studies.

Social Studies- We get to travel to Australia- the Land Down Under (under the Equator, that is). STANDARDS:

SS6G11 Locate selected features of Australia. a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea, Uluru/Ayers Rock, Indian and Pacific Oceans, Great Dividing Range, and Great Victoria Desert.

SS6G12 Explain the impact of location, climate, distribution of natural resources, and population distribution on Australia. a. Describe how AustraliaÕs location, climate, and natural resources impact trade and affect where people live

Students will - 1.Explain where people live in Australia and why

2. Use a map to identify natural resources in Australia

3. Use a map to locate bodies of water: Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea, Indian and Pacific Oceans

4. Use a map to locate landforms: Ulura/Ayers Rock, Great Dividing Range, and Great Victoria Desert

SCIENCE-  Students will learn about renewable and non-renewable resources.  We will focus on placed we have learned about in social studies to look at the natural resources and identify them as renewable or non-renewable.This will be an opportunity to review our geography from this year in Social Studies.

Social Studies- Students will continue to learn about money management and finance terms.  This week, the focus is on goods and services and wants and needs.  Vocabulary to know:  goods, services, producers, manufactured, consumers, customers, supply, demand, wants, needs, afford, choices, and earn.
Science- Students will review the phases of the moon and complete worksheet to label the phases of the moon.  I encourage students to look outside at  night and observe the moon in the sky.  

April 13-17

HAPPY SPRING! 
In social studies, we are starting a new unit on PERSONAL MONEY MANAGEMENT!  Students will learn about saving, spending, and budgeting.  Vocabulary to Know:
income, budget, savings, credit, debit, debt, earn, finance (financial), cost, benefit, interest.  
In science, we are starting Unit 2 Lesson 2 on Moon Phases and Eclipses.  Students will view the digital lesson to learn about celestial objects- the Sun, Moon, and Earth.  They will see demonstrations on the phases of the moon, and learn about solar and lunar eclipses.

March 30- April 3

In social studies, we will finish the unit on the economy and government of Latin America.  Students will review vocabulary terms and make connections to the countries in Latin America.
In science, students will complete a power point on the Solar System. Using the information from the past two weeks, students will tell 2 facts about each planet and make a comparison to Earth.

SOCIAL STUDIES: This week, students will focus on ECONOMY and TRADE vocabulary and how it applies to countries in Latin America. They will listen to a power point to review the information. They have 2 worksheets to do and a forms quiz.
VOCABULARY TO KNOW: trade, trade barrier, tariff, quota, embargo, import, export, natural resources, entrepreneur
SCIENCE- Students are continuing to learn about our solar system. This week, they will study the four outer planets known as the Gas Giants. They will read/listen to the textbook pages and complete a digital lesson. There is a worksheet for the reading and a worksheet for the digital lesson.

We are the digital learning day TeleSchool schedule. Science is for Thursdays, and Social Studies is on Fridays.
I will post the work on MyHomework App and e-mail it to students and parents.
SCIENCE:  We are starting a new unit on the SOLAR SYSTEM. This is in the HMH Ed textbook on Classlink.  It is the one with the smiley face (NOT HMH Central).  The textbook has AUDIO so students can listen and read along to each page in the lesson.  I will email a worksheet to go with the digital lesson.  They have completed this type of lesson many times.  If you CANNOT print, please let me know. 
SOCIAL STUDIES:  We are starting a unit on government and economy in Latin America.  This week, students will have a power point project that also relates to lessons we had on Latin America.  The project details will be posted under Social Studies and emailed to students and parents.

Social Studies: Students are finishing the unit on Latin America history. The test will be on Thursday. A study guide will go home on Monday (and on e-mail). They are taking notes to use on the test.  Study Guide is Posted Under Resources on Social Studies.
Science- Students are learning about weather and weather systems. They will record a 5 day forecast from the local weather report. Also, they will write a weather report as though they are a meteorologist. VIDEOS to help:

In social studies, students will continue to look at the history of Latin America.  They will move into more modern times and learn about the Cuban Revolution.  Vocabulary to Know:  revolution, military, dictator, embargo, trade, immigration
Fidel Castro, communism, ally, Soviet Union
In science, students will complete the unit on Heat Transfer and begin a unit on Weather. Students will learn terms related to meteorology.  Vocabulary to Know:
front, air mass, current, temperature, weather, climate, air pressure, baromete

Monday- Happy Presidents' Day
Tuesday-Friday. Tuesday is a "FLIPPED DAY," so students will go to Connections first and the schedule is 7,8,3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2.
Social Studies- Students will continue to learn about conflict in the Americas due to the European explorers. We will discuss the Columbian Exchange and the Triangular Trade. Students will discuss the impact of slavery.
Science- Students will continue to learn about energy transfer. They will learn about conduction, convection, and radiation. Students will discuss real world examples of each type of energy transfer.
