6th Grade Spanish Teacher
My name is Maria del Carmen Mendo-Crowe, and I am a native Spanish speaker originally from Lima, Peru, where I was born and raised. I resided in Peru until 2003, when I relocated to the United States. I hold a degree in Education with a specialization in Spanish Language and Literature from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
During my time in Peru, I accumulated nearly 15 years of professional experience in the field of education. I served both as a Spanish language instructor at the collegiate level and as an academic and curriculum administrator, roles that provided me with a comprehensive foundation in instructional leadership and curriculum development.
I am an active member of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers (CCFLT), and I regularly participate in their annual conferences. These professional development opportunities have been instrumental in refining my understanding of Comprehensible Input (CI) and in equipping me with effective instructional strategies to promote student engagement and communicative competence in the target language. Additionally, these experiences have supported my ongoing commitment to maintaining 90% or more of classroom interaction in Spanish through the use of consistent, research-based routines.
Currently, I am in my thirteenth year of teaching at North Star Academy. It is a privilege to contribute to your childÕs language learning journey, and I look forward to a productive and enriching school year.
