Welcome to the 2015-16 school year!

Published Aug. 9, 2015, 11:07 a.m.

Hello! I am so excited to start this school year! There have been lots of changes here at the school, and I am looking forward to a year of discovery and hard work.

If you are interested in signing up for remind.com reminders, please read the following instructions:

for students/parents of English 10: text   @sophmoore   to the number 81010

for students/parents of English 12: text   @eng12moore   to the number 81010

for students/parents of AP Literature: text   @aplitmoore   to the number 81010

The system will then respond with directions. When it asks for your name, please use the first and last name you would like me to use (rather than creative screen names), as this will help me know who has enrolled.

Students who sign up will be eligible for contests and the ability to win highly coveted rewards!

I also highly recommend both students and parents downloading the myhomework app that is available for free for either Apple or Android phones. This app connects directly to teachers.io (my website) and can be used both in class and at home. Just download and follow the directions to locate my class.

Remind.com

Published Aug. 1, 2014, 7:44 a.m.

As an added bonus for both students AND parents, I have created an account on Remind.com. This is a service that allows me to send out text message reminders to students (and any parents who want to receive these messages also) about important things coming up, due dates, changes to the schedule, etc. This WILL NOT replace the use of this blog and website to post reminders, assignments, and materials. Nor will a message be a daily occurrence: this is simply an added way for me to easily and quickly communicate when I deem it necessary to do so. This is not required and you will be able to opt out at any time. If you want to unsubscribe, simply reply with the word "stop." This will unsubscribe you from all classes.

This system is totally safe and anonymous. Students will never have or see my real phone number, and I will never see or know theirs. All the system will ask for is the student's or parent's name so that I can see who is added to each class. It is a one-way messaging system that is meant for me to send OUT messages; no one will be able to reply to any message (unless you wish to unsubscribe from the service, as stated above).

Freshman Literature students: text the message "@froshlit" to phone number (480)878-7795 to sign up for text message reminders. If you would prefer to receive email reminders, just send an email (no subject or body is necessary) to froshlit@mail.remind.com. If you ever want to unsubscribe from getting emails, reply with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.

Sophomore Writing (Principles of English 1) students: text the message "@pofe" to phone (480)878-7795 to sign up for text message reminders. If you would prefer to receive email reminders, just send an email (no subject or body is necessary) to pofe@mail.remind.com. If you ever want to unsubscribe from getting emails, reply with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.

Seniors!! Independent Reading Guidelines for 2013-14

Published Sept. 4, 2013, 7:10 a.m.

All non-AP seniors: As has been the case throughout all your high school English classes, you will be required to always have a book you are reading independently. Goodreads.com will still be utilized for all assessments (in the form of a book review for EACH book you complete). In the first semester, you may choose any books you would like to read with the following stipulations: 1)the book must be at least 200 pages long; 2) the book must be grade-level appropriate; 3) the book must be either fiction or non-fiction (no books of poetry allowed); 4) the book cannot have been made into a movie. For second semester, the books you choose will be related to your topic of research. Although this will probably mean you'll be reading non-fiction books, that may not always be the case.

**Make sure you still have an account on Goodreads.com. (If you never signed up, please do so immediately. Remember that no last names can appear on the website.)

**Make sure to send me a friend request. I cannot grade your reviews unless you are my friend. I can be found in the SFHS Group under the groups tab. If you need help with this, just let me know.

**Guidelines for reviews can be found on my old blog here. Please read these to ensure that you get the full points on all book reviews. (Just scroll down to the book review guidelines. Disregard all other information in the page.)

2013-14 year!

Published July 31, 2013, 5:59 p.m.

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer break. As I'm sure you know by now, a lot of changes have taken place in our English department this year. We are very sorry to see Ms. Harter, Mrs. Degenhardt, and Ms. Johnson go, but we are also super excited about the new adventures and opportunities they'll receive.

I am taking most of the seniors this year. That means that some of you will have had me for three years in a row! I don't know if that is a blessing or a curse. haha
So, this is where I will be putting all homework assignment, links to information you need, announcements, updates, notes, and anything else I think you'll be able to use. Parents, this is where you can see what we're doing in class each day. You will also have access to all the homework and handouts too.

Please don't hesitate to email or call if there are any concerns or questions. I look forward to a very exciting, fun, and challenging year!
