Overview

Trekking in the Sahyadri region, on Kalsubai Peak is very popular. It is the highest peak in Maharashtra. Kusubai trek height is 5400 ft. You can access the place easily both from Mumbai and Pune. You can explore a splendid view of the beautiful forests, waterfalls, grasslands, historic forts, through the Kalsubai trek height.

For the entire year, many people from the neighbouring villages visit the Kalsubai Temple at the peak. They recieve the blessings of Kalsubai Devi deity. As per the story, a young village girl Kalsubai, lived in these mountains. She helped the villagers in village activities and also used to cure villagers and animals. One day she never came back when she went on the peaks. So in memory of the girl Kalsubai, a small temple was built at her home on the mountainside. The main Kalsubai temple is built on the peak of the mountain.

Many famous forts like Madan, Alang, Kulang are seen on the Kalsubai trek. Its quite challenging to treks to these peaks of Alang, Kulang and Madan. On a clear day, you can also view other neighbouring forts such as , Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Harihargad. Advanced trekkers also go on these treks for more adventure.

The Kalsubai trek is also popular for night trek. Trekkers also gather here for the beautiful sunrise.

Itenary

From Bari Village to Ladder Section

The trek starts at Bari village. Don't take any turns in the way and walk through the village on the straight path that leads through it. Kalsubai trek distance is 6.6 kms.

You walk through fields after leaving the village behind, the trek continues. Take a right turn after you have reached the end of the hutments. Then you will cross a stream which flows here, and continue walking through the fields. During monsoons, the stream flows here oftenly.

From Ladder section to Kalsubai summit

You reach a set of iron steps, after an hour of trekking. Be cautious while climbing these iron steps for the entire Kalsubai trek distance. The path becomes a slippery during monsoon. You will see four such climbing ascents during your climb. These are quick and steep steps. The descent can lead to knee pain because of pressure on knees.

In some places Climbing the rock surface is difficult and the steps are at spots to reduce the steepness of the steep rock surface in all such points of the Kalsubai trek distance.

Best Time For The Kalsubai Peak Trek

The monsoon is between July and September. You will enjoy trekking in heavy rain, and see lush green beautiful landscapes. The monsoon season is the Kalsubai trek best time, but there are 2000 to 3000 people on the trail and it gets extremely crowded. It gets slippery and risky, due to heavy rains on the trail. The atmosphere is not clear during this time due to rains.

September and October are the season when you see a lot of flowers. During the months of autumn, you get clear views of nearby peaks and forts. So this is the Kalsubai trek best time. You walk on the beautiful grasslands which have a large variety of flowers. You see the same variety of flowers in the Kaas plateau. You will also encounter some rare species of snakes on the iron ladders.

In the pre-monsoon months, the clouds form interesting patterns in months of May and June. You can see a lot of fireflies.


Things to carry

Carry the first aid kit with you. Carry your identity card with you. To protect from sunshine and heat, also carry sunglasses. Keep with you cap or scarf. Carry a raincoat for the monsoon months. Carry a bottle of water, fill more than two liters as the trek would cause dehydration. Necessarily keep lemon, salt or electrolyte powder or Drinks like Electral, Glucon D, gatorade. Also bring high-calorie snacks like dry fruits, nuts and amp, a home-baked cake or other things. Keep multi-tool knives or Swiss Army Knives. Also carry safety pins, and rubber bands which are pretty useful during emergencies. Also keep two quick dry T-shirts. They are preferred over cotton t-shirts. Also have one pair of trekking pants and track pants for comfortable trekking. Also keep with yourself sunscreen to protect from sunheat. You can bring a camera with you if you want. Also carry a torch and extra batteries for safety during nights. Also carry a light jacket with yourself.
