From the Desk of Principal Lantz
September 2025Dear Grinnell Families and Students,
I am truly excited to welcome you and your children to the upcoming school year starting this fall. I hope this message finds you enjoying a wonderful summer filled with rest, play, and joyful moments. Our Geckos are the heart of our school community, and I cannot wait to see their smiles and energy return to the classrooms and hallways.
As we prepare for the first day of school, I would like to share a few helpful reminders to make the transition into the new year smooth and enjoyable. First, please be sure to order school supplies early. Having everything ready ahead of time allows children to start the year with confidence and removes last minute stress for families. Our supply lists are available on the school website, and many of our local stores also keep copies at their customer service desks. You can purchase at Staples here: https://www.staples.com/School-Supplies/cat_SC350235
Second, our teachers and support staff have been preparing fun resources to keep learning active during the summer. Families can download and print educational templates and environmental coloring books directly from our school resource page or outside resources like the ones here: These are wonderful activities to spark creativity, curiosity, and environmental awareness while students get ready for the year ahead.
Third, I encourage families to take time to review school routines, rules, and boundaries with children. Simple conversations about arriving on time, treating classmates with kindness, and following classroom expectations can make the first days back far less overwhelming. When children know what to expect, they feel safer and more secure, which helps them focus on making friends and learning.
Fourth, I am delighted to announce that we will hold our annual open house in mid October. Families will have the chance to meet teachers, tour classrooms, and reconnect with staff. This event always sets a positive tone for the year and gives students the opportunity to feel comfortable in their new surroundings before the first official day.
Finally, I want to remind everyone of our first PTO meeting, which will be held one week before school begins. Joining the PTO is a meaningful way to connect with other families, learn about volunteer opportunities, and strengthen our school community. Your involvement makes such a difference, and I hope to see many new and familiar faces there.
As the new school year approaches, know that our entire Grinnell team is preparing diligently to make this year one of growth, discovery, and joy. Thank you for your continued support.
