Make sure you're caught up. If you're missing work (particularly the grammar quizzes), use this time to do that. And then look at TED Talks when you're done. If you do not get missing work/quizzes in by the end of school tomorrow, you cannot get credit for them. PLEASE get all the work in you can before leaving school tomorrow. Email me this morning if you have questions--I'll be in 124B.
You're going to write and deliver your own TED talk (TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design). But watch some first. Below is a link to a series of talks about music (there are talks from Sting, John Legend, and Mark Ronson, among others). You can watch any of those, or you can search for talk-topics of your own to watch (movies, environment, politics, time--there are some great ones about time). Watch as many as you want on your iPad for the first hour of class. For the remainder of class, start to develop your own approximately five-minute talk on any subject you'd like or anything you've learned. The idea is to talk about a subject in front of the class that you feel passionately about. It should be about something that you love--something that you have personal experience with. Keep the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge talk in mindÑshe spoke about ALS and the challenge and also offered details of her family's experience--her experience and topic were tied together. That should be your goal. Try to choose something that you love to talk about.
Choose a topic that you're really interested in...that you want others to be interested in...that you think is important. UPDATED: Talks begin on May 3rd. Be ready--names will be called randomly to present beginning on that day. If you're not ready to go when called, your talk will lose points for being late.
PLEASE EMAIL ME THE TOPIC YOU'RE CONSIDERING.
