Take a "feminist" view of the novel to this point. As you read, look for places where you see Hurston making comments on the role of women. Jot down any text/dialogue you think helps the reader to see this as a woman's story. Then write a page-and-a-half to two pages about what assertions you think Hurston might making about gender roles/gaps/expectations through the characters and their development.
