Assignment Details
Owen Meany, The Finger
English Classes
Date Due
Nov. 1, 2017
Additional Info
Things are changing for our characters in "The Finger." Also, you'll notice that Owen has by far his most lines of dialogue.
*Identify how things are changing.
*How do you think we as readers are supposed to feel about the changes? Think about your current feelings towards/for the characters.
*How do we fit this chapter into the book as a whole? How does it carry on old ideas and introduce new ideas?
*Upon concluding this chapter, taking all you know about the characters into account (all along the timeline), what's one thing you'd expect to see/discover/resolve in the final chapter. Think about this question in terms of ideas and themes--not just plot points. In other words, what thoughts/ideas do think Irving might want to leave with his readers at the end of the book?
*Out of curiosity, what do you make of Owen's increased dialogue in this chapter? Is it a coincidence? Are we supposed to pay more attention to him? Does the increased dialogue tie into ideas or thoughts you have from the above prompts?
This is due two weeks from today on Wednesday, November 1st. The final chapter will be due Friday, November 3rd. Our writing for the final chapter will be done in class. Please try to manage your time wisely.
