Additional Info
FOR TODAY:
"He (Ishiguro) throws light on ordinary human life, the human soul, human sexuality, love, creativity and childhood innocence. He does so with devastating effect."
"It's amazing how Ishiguro says so much , and so well, about people who themselves say so little."
"This novel, with its quiet, devastating power, is a moral experience of the first order."
Taking into account we haven't read the whole book, try to apply one of these blurbs about Never Let Me Go into your perception and sense of the novel to this point. What can you expand upon? What do you see yourself?
FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29:
How/why is emotion generated for the reader in this novel? What makes us feel connected to or immersed in the world of Hailsham, the Cottages, and beyond? Think about the way emotion can move a reader or get a reader to think. Think about the way emotion can make a message or a lesson easier to grasp. Write more than a page addressing the role emotion plays in the novel. Use text, and be sure to address how emotion helps to build the meaning of the work.
FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 31:
Be ready for a quiz on the last section of the book (including fill-in-the-blanks), and be ready for an in-class activity that shows you've read and thought about the entire book. Also, turn in at least a half-page addressing your immediate thoughts upon reading the last words of the novel. In other words, as SOON as you finish, grab a pencil and paper, and write about what you're feeling, thinking, etc.
