Read section IV. Focus on a character other than Raskolnikov that is featured prominently in this section (hopefully, one that's also been developed throughout the novel). Make an argument for that character's purpose. Is that character serving as a foil (in opposition of the main character)? Is the character helping to drive the actions of Raskolnikov? Is the character standing in for the audience, saying and thinking the things we might? Is the character helping to bring a larger idea to light? Or is the character doing something else altogether? Write a page 1/2 and also provide 4-6 lines from the novel (with brief notes) that support your argument (this is separate from the writing). So you will turn in your writing and a separate sheet 4-6 lines with notes on how that line supports your idea.
