Date Due

Nov. 15, 2017

Additional Info
Classwork, 11/7: Read through the line "And this also," said Marlow suddenly, "has been one of the dark places of the earth."

**Write down words/phrases that set an early tone/mood.
**After the first few pages, how you would judge the difficulty of the language? What are some challenges you think the language of this book might bring as compared to A Prayer For Owen Meany (assuming there are any)?
** Make a list of any questions about the text or the book itself at this point.

HW: In the first section, you're being sent into your own "heart of darkness." We're looking to connect this first part of the journey--where things are still largely unknown--to where we think we might be going. Identify at least seven pieces of text you think are both immediately important and also could be important to the story as a whole...look for foreshadowing.

Write these seven pieces of text down as well as a brief explanation of what you see as the text's immediate importance and how you think they may play a role later in the story.

Also keep a running list of questions/comments that don't have to be analytical in nature...ten should do it. These questions and comments should (if nothing else) demonstrate that you've read carefully.

When you come in on Wednesday, Nov. 15th, you'll have a blanks quiz. You'll also be expected to talk about your ideas (generated from your annotations) while standing on the blue carpet.
