Turn in the classwork we began on chapter one along with the work below for extra credit. 

Read chapters 1-5 of Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. Be ready for a blanks quiz.  

Make sure you've identified at least two or three ideas you see being presented in the novel--these can be one word themes...like "Power" or "Family."  

Include a few pieces of text underneath that help support your idea (at least four). 

For each idea/theme, based on the text you've presented, make an argument as to what Hurston might be saying about that idea/theme. 

Your actual argument-statement will be one or two sentences long, and then write a few more sentences that show how the text you chose supports the theme...about a good-sized paragraph probably.
