Read the first chapter of Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone). Write a page (12 font, double spaced, top-to-bottom) about a strategy or strategies you see the author using to introduce his story. An author might try to set a tone early in his book, he might try to introduce conflicts, he might try to introduce main ideas and themes, or he might try to do all of these things. What your paper should have is the following: 1)Ways the author uses language to introduce any things you think will play a larger role in the book 2) What those larger things will be 3) Why the author's language and strategy is effective for the ideas/points he is introducing.
