Additional Info
Read one of the stories included in this link--there's a very brief synopsis of each. You'll be able to link to most stories through the site...if you can't, try Googling the title/author of the story...you should be able to find a PDF of it. I can help you find stories, too.
When you're finished reading the story and feel like you have a handle on its meaning/s--large and small--you are to do several things:
1) Write your own brief summary of the story--no longer than 40 words--that addresses just the plot (beginning, middle, end). You can include spoilers.
2) Write down at least two things you think this story means--this is where you look beyond the details and plot of the story to what the story is telling us.
3) Choose one of the meanings you wrote about it in #2, and provide at least three pieces of evidence that support your interpretation of the story. For each piece of evidence, write a line or two that states how the evidence supports your interpretation.
4) Write a half-page essay that does nothing but argue for a single character's/detail's/line's relevance to the meaning you selected in #3. Use strong language and an economy of words--make your points in support of your argument firmly and quickly.
