Read the attached article--"Why I Stayed"--and annotate.

Remember: Always consider audience, purpose, speaker. Ask yourself questions.

1) Identify Fenn's main point--should take a sentence or two. What does she want to us to think/feel/do (if anything)?

2) Identify a strategy, which is how the author chooses to make her main point. 

3) Provide a list of evidence that supports your identification of the author's strategy. Here you can identify word choice, phrases, specific details that are included, emotional/logical language, rhetorical questions, sentence structure--anything you were asked to find in your summer reading.

4) Make a claim for why Fenn's strategy fits her main point--why her strategical approach works to make her main point. In other words, what makes this an effective piece of writing? 

5) Write a few sentences about what makes Fenn's overall approach effective and how writing it another way might have been less effective.
