Read the letter carefully. Then read it again, making notes as you go. You are to make an argument as to what you believe the author's intent is and how the way she writes helps her to achieve this intent. Do not reduce the writing to literary terms like diction, syntax, details, etc. You are still looking for an overall strategy or several significant strategies you see the author using to make her own argument--but just look at the words on the page and argue how they work. Pretend you don't know anything about literary terms. You're just writing about a piece of writing and what makes it effective.
