Chapters 1-9:

Develop a one-and-a-half-page argument (double-spaced, 12 font, no headers) about how Beah uses either the ideas of family or nature to help tell his story--treat his use of nature or family as a strategy he's using to make his story and its message (or messages) clear and effective.. Provide examples. Use text. Be sure to clearly state how/why his inclusion of details of nature or his family helps him to tell his larger story of his life and the war.

Pick one sentence from each chapter that you feel is important, and argue for why it is important. Consider the impact of the sentence in its immediate context and in its larger context within the book. Look at the sentences closely--refer to specific words and phrases and how/why specific words and phrases are used. Look at the language as closely as you can. You can do extra sentences for extra credit.
