Read Gary Smith's article about Pat Tillman entitled "Remember His Name."
1) Identify the author's main point.

2) Be specific about what you believe the central thing Smith wants to feel/think/believe after reading this. Support this assertion with at least five pieces of evidence from the text. At least four pieces need to be the author's own words. Explain how those pieces of text support your assertion.

3) Find three other pieces of text that you feel comfortable in saying something like, "The author used these specific words/used these specific words in this specific order/included this specific detail/chose to use this specific quote for this specific reason." These don't have to be connected to anything you've written for #2--it's just a chance to write about something else you see. Authors often make more than one point or want us to feel/think/believe more than one thing.

4) After completing this assignment, write a page about someone. Use Smith's writing as a guide to how you approach your own writing.
