Work in groups of four. You can turn everything in on one piece of paper.

1) Establish what you believe to be the "American dream." All group members should write down their own version of what it is first. Then group members should share. From that sharing, develop a version that incorporates as many of the group's views as possible.

2) Use Google to search the internet for articles about the "American dream"--try googling those words for starters. Choose articles from legitimate news/magazine sites. Each member of the group should the same two articles/essays--take some time to choose some good ones.

3)  Once you've read your essay, jot down in a few sentences what your essays were about. Then pick out a few elements of the essay that you either agree or disagree with, based on your responses to #1. Write these down. Be specific.

4) Write down something that you learned or changed your mind on as a group (or individually) about the American dream.
