Additional Info
Dear All,
I am away with the Y7s at St Albans on Monday, so feel free to work independently in the Library.
During our lesson time, you should aim to prepare your presentation about your Platonic Dialogue which you will give in our lesson next week. Your homework will be to finish this off.
Feel free to put your own spin on things, but here are some basic guidelines you should follow:
- Explain the setting, narrative and main protagonists of the dialogue. Consider how these might relate to the 'philosophical content' of the dialogue.
- Explain the main philosophical questions of the dialogue.
- Without retelling the whole dialogue blow-by-blow, describe some of the most interesting philosophical exchanges and lines of argument. Select a few specific quotations from the text to illustrate.
- Offer a personal judgement as to the validity of the arguments or the philosophical merit of dialogue as a whole.
- I would recommend a basic powerpoint or handout, just to include key information and quotations so that everyone can keep up with what you're saying. Doing this is a good way to plan what you are going to say.
- In order to fully cover and enter into the detail of your dialogue, you will have to speak for at least 5 minutes.
Remember that your classmates will have no knowledge of the dialogue you are presenting on, so you will need to fully explain all the issues to them so that they take something from your presentation.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say next week!
