Additional Info
Essay Pointers:
  • "In chapter 11..." "In the third chapter..."
  • Is it in your thesis? You better talk about it. Is it not in your thesis? Then why are you talking about it?
  • Lots and lots and lots of summary for no reason. Use summary only to set up a piece of evidence or to lead into analysis.
  • Stop needless quoting! Please!
  • Very, very little actual analysis taking place
  • Citation mistakes (periods, commas, etc.)

1. Turn in vocabulary exercises, either list #12 or list #13.

2. Group Speech presentations.
Please watch and listen for the following things to critique:
  • body language (nervous or confident? open or closed?)
  • emphasis, tone, and inflection (expressive or robotic? welcoming or disinterested? enthusiastic or bored?)
  • volume
  • audience participation (authentic or forced? necessary or superfluous?)

Speeches will NOT go past three minutes. I will give you signals at 2 more minutes, 1 more minutes, and 15 seconds. At zero, I will stop you.
