After grammar, we will quickly finish up any remaining groups that still need to present their exploration findings.

Once all groups have presented, we will respond as a class to the following questions:

  • How do you feel about rules?
  • What would your life be life if your parents had no rules at all for you?
  • What would school be like if there were no rules at all for students?

To introduce us to the novel, please look at the following artistic representations. Some are from the covers of various editions, and others are just art inspired by the novel.

What can you tell about the novel just by looking at the artwork?

The Title?? What's going on there?
Who is the "Lord" of the flies?
In addition to the literal translation, what sorts of things attract flies? Where do flies proliferate?
With this in mind, what additional insight do you have about what might be happening in this novel?

Receiving your copy:
  • Inside each novel is a card.
  • First, make certain that the number on the card matches the number on the book itself
  • take out the card and write your name on the next available line
  • give the card to Mr. Moore
  • on the sheet of paper being passed around, please write your name on the left and the number of your book on the right.

If time allows, we will begin reading the novel together out loud, as a class.
