4. We are short on time, so this unit will be intense, but it will also be rewarding if you allow it to be. Be prepared to do some work.

5. Read-Around: "The Last Day" by Mark Dunphy
This is just to get us a little more comfortable speaking in front of each other. You will draw one section of a short story. Read through your section THREE times silently. Then read through your section THREE times out loud. After everyone has practiced, we will arrange ourselves in a circle, in order. Each person will read his or her section out loud to the class. You should be comfortable with your section at this point. Speak clearly. Hold your head up high. Emphasize important words and phrases.

5. Public speaking opportunity #1: Either/Or Speech
Performance day is TOMORROW in class!

IMPORTANT NOTE: the written speech portion of this assignment will count as the written part of your semester final exam. Take it seriously. It counts for a large portion of your semester grade. :)
