After grammar we will grade your vocabulary exercises. You should have finished the "Completing the Sentence" exercise and the "Synonyms" and "Antonyms" sections. Please trade with a neighbor.

Once we have graded and turned in the vocab, we will begin our intro workshop. I will divide the class in half and each half will form a large circle.

Workshopping guidelines:

  • You are required to read your introduction
  • You are required to give meaningful feedback to at least FIVE people. A tally will be kept by the person who has read his or her intro. You will receive a grade for participating.
  • Suggestions should be content-based.
  • Suggestions and comments should use academic terminology (hook, reasons, thesis, argument, pathos, ethos, logos, etc).
  • Use "I" statements, not "you" statements.

Directions:
  1. Take FIVE pieces of construction paper
  2. Write your name on ONE side of each of them
  3. Class will divide in half and form two circles
  4. The person who has the nearest birthday starts. Reading will continue clockwise from that person.
  5. After people read their intros, raise your hand if you have a comment or suggestion. Write that suggestion on your piece of paper (probably in abbreviated format)
  6. After five hands are raised, no one else may raise his or her hand.
  7. Say your comment out loud.
  8. Hand your slip of paper to the person to whom you made the suggestion.
  9. Reader may ask clarifying questions.
  10. Next reader reads his or her introduction.
