Literary Term #5: Rising Action

In the rising action, a series of related incidents build toward the point of greatest interest. The rising action of a story is the series of events that begin immediately after the exposition (introduction) of the story and builds up to the climax.

Allusion #5: Mount Olympus & Aasgard

On the border of Thessaly and Macedonia stands Mt. Olympus, 9,800 feet high, purported [said] to be the home of the Greek gods. Asgard, on the other hand, is not a geographical location on earth but is supposed to be the center of the universe, according to Norse mythology. Its ruler, Odin and his wife, Frigg, and other gods lived in its many halls and mansions, the most famous of which was called Valhalla, where Odin lived.

As soon as we are done with the terms, we will look briefly at a presentation that will give you a few more details into classical and modern heroes, make connections between them, and introduce you to what we are about to read. Please ADD these details to the Cornell notes you've already started.

If we finish that presentation, we will start reading the introduction to The Odyssey in your literature books. This begins on page 640.
