Additional Info
Literary Term #9: Static Character
Unlike a Flat character, who is veyr two-dimensional and simple and also does not change throughout a story, a static character simply describes a character who experiences little or no inner change, or one who does not grow and develop over the course of a story.

Allusion #9: Thor

The Norse god Thor was the hammer-wielding son of Odin, leader of the gods. Thor was the most widely worshipped of Norse gods and was known as man's protector. He is associated with thunder, lightning, storms, and strength. The word Thursday comes from his name (Thor's Day). In fact, most of the names for our week days come from Norse mythology!

Today, we will read the story of Circe, which starts on page 673. The Circe section is short, so we will continue on with the Land of the Dead on page 675.

If we have time after our reading, we will answer some of your study guide questions as a class.
