First, please put your Odyssey essays in the basket. (Don't plan on getting them back for at least a couple weeks because I will not be doing any grading over fall break.)

Please take out a sheet of paper and put your name and hour on it. You will have all period to respond to the following prompt:

We discussed at length the fact that all stories follow a basic pattern, The Hero's Journey, which was written about extensively by Joseph Campbell. Construct a well-written essay that connects specific people and events from the novel to at least three stages of the Hero's Journey. You must include one stage from stages 1-4, one stage from stages 5-8, and one stage from stages 9-12. For each stage, you must provided properly cited evidence directly from the novel to support your claim that the scene is a part of the Hero's Journey. You MUST provide enough compelling commentary to clearly show how the selected events match up with your selected stages from the Hero's Journey. Your essay must have some sort of introduction that includes your book's title and author and a thesis statement and a conclusion. Please underline your thesis statement.
