2014-2015

Additional Info
Learning target: Students will analyze a film and place it into the 12 stages of the Hero's Journey.

Today, you should spend the first half of class completing your drawings. Work quickly. You will have only 30 minutes to finish. Please make sure that all groups members' names are printed clearly on your notes sheet. This is what you will turn into me before your group presents.

After 30 minutes, we will begin presentations. These should NOT be long, just a few minutes each. Decide which group member is taking which steps BEFORE you get up to present.

  1. Give Mr. Moore your group's notes sheet (with all names on it). This is what he will use to grade you.
  2. Using the magnets, attach your drawings to the front white board.
  3. The first speaker (the one doing stages 1-3) will tell the class which film or book you are presenting.
  4. The format will be as follows: "The ordinary world is seen when Emperor Cuzco is full of himself and no one really likes him. The call to action is seen when he discovers that he has been turned into a llama. The meeting with the mentor is seen when..."
  5. As people are presenting, if you at any point disagree or think that a stage can be added to or is seen in other ways or in other places, you may raise your hand to add to the discussion. Please be respectful and wait until the presenter has finished speaking.
  6. If no one in the class has any questions, comments, or something to add, the next person in the group will speak.
  7. When everyone has spoken, the next group will go.

Points will be awarded as follows:
  • 10 points: the group has a complete set of notes that details each of the 12 stages
  • 10 points: the group has a complete set of drawings that accurately depicts each of the stages you described in your notes
  • 10 points: each member of the group speaks loudly, clearly, and with confidence and authority
