Additional Info
1. You will have exactly 15 minutes to work in your groups to finish the poem annotation from yesterday, "Child Development." Here is a recap of the things I wanted to make sure you found:

  • identify the visual imagery in the first stanza; discuss its possible meaning
  • identify the auditory imagery in the second stanza; discuss its possible meaning
  • discuss the connotation of the word "mugs" in the second stanza
  • identify the allusion in the second stanza; discuss its importance & possible meaning
  • discuss the connotations of the words "squirts" and "giants" in the third stanza
  • discuss the situational irony present in the final stanza

2. After 15 minutes we will annotate the poem as a class. Your group will be responsible for certain lines, so make sure you're talking about every single little tiny detail when it is your turn to go to the board.

Your grade on this assignment (worth 25 points) will depend on your participation, the fullness of your annotation, and your ability to explain what you wrote and why you wrote it.
