Additional Info
In OneNote;
Unit 3 > Lesson 10

Complete;
  • "1 - Refraction and Critical Angle questions"
    • This is the sheet we started in class.
    • For Question 4 you may need to do a bit of googling.
  • "3 - TIR PPQs"
    • Some of these questions are quite tough.
    • Do your working out TO THE SIDE - The is NOT room to do enough working out on the sheet.
    • The answers are there to help provide you with some reassurance that you're on the right track, the questions are more about being able to SHOW your working out anyway, so see how you go.
    • If they are too tricky, stop after 40mins - we will be doing more question practice like this next lesson, so if there are some you can't do, dont worry.
To remind you;
  • The critical angle for a material is the angle of incidence of incidence when the light refracts at 90 to the normal (along the boundary).
  • If the angle of incidence is larger than this angle, light will internally obey the laws of reflection (TIR)
  •  You will only see TIR if the material outside the boundary is optically less dense (smaller value of n) than the material inside the boundary that the light is travelling in
  • n = sin i / sin r
  • n = 1 / sin c
