Additional Info
Please forget what I said at the end of the lesson about doing the questions on the last two slides - I have done them, and put them all in your HANDOUTS FOR YOU - Similar questions are also at the top of this weeks homework for example questions.

As I do not see you until next Friday, you have a whole week to do this homework!!

YOUR HOMEWORK TASK;
In OneNote; Unit 1 > Lesson 09 - Newtons 2nd Law (F=ma)
Complete; 3 - F = ma questions

Read instructions on page;
  • Show full working using F-I-F-A
  • Read through the two completed example questions
  • Equations needed for this task are at the top of the page
THINGS WORTH REMEMBERING FOR THIS HOMEWORK
  • v = u + at
  • F = m x a
  • Use the example Qs at the top of the page to help you with Q8 and Q9
  • Try Q10 IF you have time - you will need to break the problem down into multiple steps

  • In F = m x a  , F, is always the RESULTANT force
  • Resultant force is the Overall force acting on an object, some examples include (drawing out force diagrams of these will help visualise it);
    1. A Rocket with 10N thrust UP, and 3N Weight down will have a resultant force UP of 7N
    2. A falling book with a weight of 5N DOWN, and air resistance of 1N UP will have a resultant force DOWN of 4N
    3. An accelerating car with Thrust of 1000N RIGHT, and 450N of drag LEFT will have a RESULTANT force of 550N RIGHT
    4. A Car at CONSTANT SPEED with thrust of 2500N RIGHT and 2500N of Drag to the LEFT has BALANCED forces, and therefore NO RESULTANT FORCE, therefore NO ACCELERATION, therefore travels at a CONSTANT SPEED
