Hookes Law - Qs in handouts

Year 2022-23

10E-Physics

Date Due

Feb. 28, 2023

Additional Info
1)
As I said before half term, I want to to give you time in this homework, the first one back after half term, to complete your dropping boxes write up. I suspect that most of you have done most of it, but if not, please finish this off.

The rest of the homework is fairly manageable, as we will finish off some of the slides we didn't complete today in next week's lesson, but some of them you can do at home....

2)
Please complete the Qs on the handouts....
  • Find your results table from todays practical's
  • Leave the next four slides, we'll do those in class
  • Following those there are four slides called "Hooke's Law - Question Practice" - HAVE A GO AT THESE.....
You will need to know and use the Hooke's Law;
F = k x e
Force Applied (N) = Spring const. (N/cm) x Extension (cm)

3)
Also,
On Graph 2 (the graph with 1 spring, and 2 springs in series and 2 springs in parallel)....
Try and find the spring constant 'k' of each line, by finding the gradient;  The gradient can only tell you 'k' if the Force is on the Y AXIS and the Extension is on the X AXIS.
You should find the 2 springs (parallel) has the largest (stiffest) spring constant, 2 Springs (series) is the smallest (least stiff) and 1 spring should be ABOUT 15-35 N/cm  (I think they are '25N/cm' springs, but they do vary!)
