Please read Chapters 1 and 2 ahead of Monday's lesson. As you read, consider the following (to be discussed on Monday):


Chapter 1​

- What are your first impressions of the characters in chapter 1?​

- What events might be anticipated?​

-What is the effect of the Bible quotation 'how are the mighty fallen'?

Chapter 2

- From what perspectives does Hardy describe the Vale of Blackmoor?​

- What are the significant features of each perspective?​

- What seem to be the most significant features of the Vale?​

- What is the significance in Hardy mentioning the legend of the White Hart?
