Date Due

Additional Info
Please re-read Stanza 4 of 'Dulce et Decorum Est' and (on your copy of the poem) make annotations in response to the following questions:

1. What is suggested about the dead soldier's face if it is 'like a devil's sick of sin' (simile)?
2. Why does Owen use the verb 'flung' to describe how the body of the dead soldier is put into a wagon?
3. Look up the words 'zest' and 'ardent'. How does Owen feel about people who show zest or are ardent in the context of war?
4. What is the impact of the alliteration ('w') in the following lines: 'wagon that we flung him in/And watch the white eyes writhing in his face'?
5. Look up the word 'cud'. What is Owen comparing the blood being coughed up by soldiers during the gas attack to, and why?

If you have any questions, or need any assistance, please come to the Staff Room at either break or lunch.
