I have happily been a full-time classroom teacher for 16 years, primarily in Broward County Public Schools, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and also Cave Creek Unified Schools, Cave Creek (Scottsdale), AZ. My experience began early on substituting on the elementary and middle school levels, and subsequently, as a paraprofessional in a self-contained ESE (IRR) high school classroom while completing my graduate degree in Secondary Education. Postgraduate School. I then taught Language Arts in the middle school arena (6th, 7th, and 8th grade), and then as a (10th and 11th grade Honors and On-Level) College Prep and American Literature teacher. I am currently in my sixth year of teaching English at Johns Creek High School and very proud to be a JCHS Gladiator!
My teaching philosophy is that all children want to learn and can/will be successful given the right encouragement, guidance, and instruction. Students thrive on structure mixed with the freedom to create and express themselves in a positive and nurturing environment. Every student is an individual, but learning how to be part of a community is essential and worthwhile. Whether college-bound or career-ready, their future is limitless if students, teachers, and parents work together for the common goal. I am happy and excited to play my role to the best of my ability and help every student I encounter to have a fulfilling and enriching high school experience.
I love teaching and specifically teaching English/Language Arts because I have always been a lover of reading and books. I find writing a joy, not a challenge... and I feel great pride and accomplishment when a student lights up with excitement or enlightenment after a rewarding lesson or teachable moment. It is truly this journey that every good teacher holds dear to their heart versus the status or salary. To teach great literature and writing to our next generation of adults is not a job, it's a passion!
