LEARNING TARGET: What is an atom made up of and where are those particles located, what is there charge and how many are there in a specific atom/ion?

Synchronous (LIVE)

  • Take Roll/Question of the Day - What is one physical item from the last year that brought you joy?
  • Go over instructions for the Day-
    • Watch WKRP The Atom YouTube Video Clip (This clip is from a show in the 80's - BUT the info is timeless and you won't forget what is in the nucleus!)
    • Watch Ms. Day's The Atom Video: YouTube Link or Google Link and FILL out the Notes on the document: 1_11_21 U1 Atom and Periodic Table.docx (pages 1 and 2)
    • Complete the Practice Problems on pages 3 to 6 on the document: 1_11_21 U1 Atom and Periodic Table.docx
    • (PLEASE WAIT UNTIL TUESDAY FOR YOUR PROBLEM AND SKIP THIS UNTIL TUESDAY) Upload your VIDEO answer for your assigned problem AND for the atom/ion you are assigned, be sure to also state the following:
      • My (atom/ion) is ____. It has ___ protons and ___ neutrons found in the _____. Traveling around the nucleus are ____ electrons that go round and round. Between the nucleus and the electrons is a ____________________________.

Asynchronous Independent Work Time

  • Complete all of the assignments above:
    1. Top of Notes - watch the YouTube link and draw and label an atom
    2. Watch Ms. Day's Notes and then fill them out
    3. (SKIP THIS UNTIL TUESDAY!) Complete your problem and upload your flipgrid video (this will be our answer key) - counts as a grade as well
    4. Complete the rest of your problems on pages 3 to 6 of the worksheet. Be sure to go back and check your work with your classmates. If you disagree, help them out.. that is what a class family is ... we help each other learn and mistakes are welcomed!!
