Day 30: Periodic Trends Webquest and Modeling Elements
2018 - 2019
Date
Sept. 12, 2018
Additional Info
UPDATE: Video Notes due TOMORROW!! Thursday, Sept 13
1. complete #4 Where's Al? Introduction Activity to Periodic Trends (DUE at the end of class)
DUE TODAY: (DUE at the end of class)
- #3 Counting Elements Part A
- #4 Where's Al?
HANDED OUT TODAY:
- #5 Periodic Trends Webquest
***** #__ = corresponds to the worksheet in your Unit 4a Packet - See Calendar for Table of Contents or class poster
HW: #4 Video 4a Due: Thursday, Sept 13 - (possibly an open notes quiz on Wed "hint hint") See link and notesheet to print here:
- (If absent, print out below, cut out the cousin pieces and paste to a paper - turn these in with the assignment.)
2. complete #3 Counting Elements Part B and use the blocks to model the compounds. Draw the compounds as described on the sheet and color appropriately. Be sure to answer all questions.
- Some hints:
- One compound is written on SAME line
- The coefficient tells you how many rows of the same compound that you have
- Also, see the pdf below for examples
- The KEY will be posted here after the due date (9/12)
- If you are struggling with monatomic vs polyatomic, I noticed that enough students were having trouble distinguishing this, therefore, I will try a demo/analogy to clarify this tomorrow. You may skip step 3 if you are still struggling after looking at the info from the warm up found in the pdf below (Whiteboard 9.11)
3. #5 Periodic Trends Webquest/Virtual Lab This is DUE Thursday, Sept 13.
- To help with the speed of collecting data I have given the following links with charts instead of individually clicking on each element.
- Atomic Radii (alt link) PDF of atomic radii in pm on Periodic Table (Francium typically is written as unknown, but based on trends is largest - the radius of Francium is listed here: http://www.rsc.org/periodic-table/element/87/francium )
- Ionization Energy (kj/mol) Ionization Energy on Periodic Table Link
- Electronegativety Electronegativity Chart Link or Another Electronegativity Chart Link
- Wanting more details of WHY?? Look at the Unit 4a PPT and Video Notes first and then check out these extended (more detail than tested on) links for a more in depth look:
