Day 92: Bowling Lab Graphing, Vocab Quiz and Car Lab Round 2

2015-2016

Physical Science

Date

Jan. 12, 2016

Additional Info
MAIN IDEA: Speed with direction is Velocity

Essential Question: What are the relationships between
forces and motion?

  1. Warm Up: Answer the pre-graphing questions and sit with your assigned groups. (See lab sheet handed out in class.)
  2. Bowling Lab:
    • Graph data points using one color for each trial (Meaning that the data points for each trail are the same.)
    • Take a BEST FIT LINE of each trail (#1, #2, #3).
    • Calculate average velocity for each trial. (SHOW WORK) Average your three averages and find the typical average speed.
    • Conclusion:
      1. Discuss any observations made during the lab (refer to your notes on page one).
      2. Discuss when we used instantaneous speed or average speed.
      3. Discuss why we are finding velocity (hint, speed and velocity are about the same in this lab because our ball was traveling in a straight line.)
  3. Re-design your car lab with assigned group: Write the Purpose, Materials and instructions.
  4. Close Out: Displacement vs Distance presentation from one group and ticket out the door (via socrative- Room: funday)
