Chem A - QUIZ on Naming and Formula-Writing (see below!)

2021-2022

Chemistry (A)

Date

Nov. 12, 2021

Additional Info
  • Make sure you have corrected the "naming ionic compounds, no acids, no hydrates" worksheet from class on Thursday, using the key posted in the content library "homework" section
  • The quiz covers section 7.1 in your textbook--ionic compound naming, polyatomic ions, and molecular compounds. You do NOT need to know the "traditional" system using Latin names, such as "ferric" and "ferrous," although it is interesting. You do NOT need to know acid naming or hydrate naming (yet).
  • You will be given a name and asked to write a formula OR vice versa for ionic compounds (including polyatomic ions and metals with variable charges) AND covalent or molecular compounds, including acids.
  • A periodic table AND a table of common ions will be provided (although you can earn an extra credit point if you don't need to use the common ion sheet).
  • Suggestion:  Do the optional quiz  for review--"Naming Compounds--All Types" (but skipping the acids and hydrates) and check your answers (on OneNote, in the content library under Ch. 7 resources). Also -- review the POGIL activities and worksheets we've done. See OneNote for notes and additional resources.
