2022-3

10B DRAMA

Date Due

March 10, 2023

Additional Info
In your 2/3 you have been assigned ONE of the FOUR acts in the play.

Read the stage directions at the beginning of your given act and, using the revision guide we looked at in class as a help, write a response to the following question:

You are designing the lighting for Act 1/2/3/4. The lighting must reflect the content of The Crucible, set in a Puritan community in the late 17th century. Describe your lighting design ideas.

Think about:
Stage space and where light comes from.
Type of light that would be available in c17 Puritan community - natural light from outside, candles, lanterns with candles inside them. Dimness of the rooms but this must be offset with the audience’s requirement to see the actors faces, etc
Windows, in the set
Time of day
Any reference to symbolic ideas - light representing truth, hope, etc.
Atmosphere and how lighting colour associated this - steel blue gels = cool/cold atmosphere>

Use the above points to help you.

It is CRUCIAL that your ideas reflect the context of the play set in c17, simple, austere, Puritan lifestyle.

Don’t write any more than 2/3 of a page handwritten and 1/3 of a page typed.

Go to the Exemplar Written Work file on Showbie for some examples of set and costume 4 mark responses.
