Connections

2016-2017

B/H. Humanities 7-7

Date

Sept. 15, 2016

Additional Info

Connections can be made:

  • Text to text: it reminds me of another book/a poem.
  • Text to self: it reminds me of a time...
  • Text to World: it reminds me of something in the world.
  • Text to media: it reminds me of something on I saw TV/online/heard in a song

What makes a connection meaningful?

  • It adds to my mental image,
  • it helps me understand how the character is feeling,
  • it helps me feel like I am "in" the story,
  • it does not distract me or make me forget what I am reading,
  • it adds to my thinking.
Surface level connections have little detail. Deep connections have depth and go into specific details. We want to strive for DEEP connections!

Read the story "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros. While reading the story highlight sections or make notes of places where you made a connection.

Afterwards, take the "Connections" worksheet and take  fill in some connections you made. Students should strive to make at least one connection to text, self, media, and world.
