Additional Info

Apologies for missing the lesson today. We will evaluate and discuss all of your Journeys project next week as promised.

  1. We are starting our new project on Architecture. Please go to the Showbie folder on Architecture and go to Folder no. 5 called British Museum Trip. You will be visiting the British Museum later in the term looking at Classical architecture. Please go specifically to pages 4 - 5 about the Parthenon which we will see in the British Museum. I would like you to focus on the three different types of pillars found in ancient temples like the Parthenon, they are called the three orders: Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.
  2. Please complete a written paragraph on the 3 pillars from classical architecture in your sketchbook. You can use the internet to find out more information about their origins and history:

Ionic - scrolls

Doric - plain

Corinthian - acanthus leaves

I would like you to do a small pencil sketch of the top of each of the columns as this determines which order they belong to. Please complete this sketch after each paragraph in your sketchbook.

  1. If you complete the pillar research task above in the lesson, please go on to read pages 6 - 10 about the eastern and western pediments, The metopes and the Parthenon Frieze in the showbie folder on the British Museum. Write a paragraph about each of these elements of the Parthenon and make a small sketch of these sections.
  1. UPLOAD ALL WORK TO SHOWBIE THAT YOU COMPLETE IN THE LESSON in the British Museum Trip assignment that you will have looked at in the lesson.
