Apologies for missing our first lesson back in 2025, I am aware that we have not quite finished your portraits. We will do so next week. For todays lesson you are going to look ahead to your new project which is called ‘Chimeras’. In Greek mythology, a chimera was a fire breathing female monster with a lion’s head, a goat’s body and a serpent’s tail.

1. Begin by opening Showbie then go to the green Chimera folder and go to assignment called number 1: Chimera introduction and animal drawing tasks.
2. Look through and read the presentation (PPP1 Intro and drawing tasks) slides 1-27.
3. Now look carefully through the slides 23-27 go through the steps and read about how to sketch different animals, there is a cat and a monkey, look through these carefully.
4. Ignore the rest of the slides about abstracting animals in drawings 28-33.
5. Once you have read through these sketching slides go on your iPad and find images of two animals you like. You can use Google images to find these animals (domestic or wild).
6. In your sketchbook (or A4 paper if you don’t have your book with you), make a detailed pencil sketch of one of the animals you have selected. Use the slides 24 to 26 to help you with your drawings, starting with basic shapes. You don’t have to draw a cat and a monkey, but you can apply the step-by-step instructions to any animal. You should spend half an hour on this pencil drawing.
7. For the next half hour make a digital drawing using any art software you have installed on your iPad (Ibis paint, brushes etc) and make a detailed digital drawing of your second animal.
8. I will be collecting these drawings in next week so be ready to upload them in our lesson.
