1. Today is a lesson on exam technique before the test on Friday. To help with exam technique, which can account for a lot of the marks, I’ve uploaded a mark scheme and annotated model answer for the 2019 paper, which is the one we worked on together last week. You may want to try the data response 8 marker yourself before marking it or use the model answer or both.

You’ll see that half the marks in the 8 marker come from AO3 (understanding and application) and half the marks come from A04 (geographical skills). Ie making obvious reference to the resource and doing something with it is important for A04 and applying it to the question is what you need to do for A03. You’re not asked to do a knowledge dump of case studies here, as there are no A01 (knowledge) marks. The mark scheme shows that these 8 markers are, however, level marked and for level 3 your answer needs to be logical, coherent and structured ie paragraphed. For evidence to be used in support of the argument there needs to be an argument in the first place! And the source of the evidence should be clear eg Fig 3 shows… Read the level descriptors on the mark scheme carefully. 

2. I’ve uploaded another paper and mark scheme. (SAM which stands for sample -Edexcel paper)  Again, use it as you see fit. Personally I think it’s best to have a go at the questions and then mark them.
