  1. Answer the following questions on The Lottery
    1. Describe the POV of the story. What seems to be the position from which the narrator sees and describes the events? How much extra information does the narrator provide?
    2. What would the story be like if it were done with an omniscient POV? Could the story be as suspenseful as it is? In what other ways might the story be different with another POV?
    3. Does the conclusion of The Lottery seem to come as a surprise? In retrospect, what hints earlier in the story tell about what is to come?
    4. Is The Lottery a horror story or a surprise story, or neither or both? Explain.
  2. Answer the following questions on Neighbors:
    1. Who is the speaker of Neighbors? From the story, what, if anything, do you learn about him? How does he seem to acquire knowledge of what the Millers are doing and thinking?
    2. Who are the Millers? Do they seem normal at first? As the story progresses, do they seem to get odd? What happens to them? Why do you suppose the speaker is interested in them? Why does he not explain what the Millers do in the Stones' apartment?
    3. Should the story be considered as realistic fiction? How might it seem appropriate to consider the story as an illustration of life's absurdities?
