3. Read “To Build a Fire” beginning on page 596. You may read individually or with ONE other person
As you read, answer the following questions:
1. Describe the personality of the man in the story. Give 3 pieces of evidence to support your conclusion. 
2. Why do you think the writer keeps emphasizing how cold it is, and how the man has never felt such cold before?
3. After he decides not to eat his lunch, how does the man’s view of his situation change dramatically but briefly?
4. When the man falls in the river he curses his bad luck. Do you agree with where he places his blame? Why or why not?
5. What is the flaw in the man’s plan when he starts to run to the camp?
6. How does the dog know to leave the man and head to the camp?
7. Note at least 3 conflicts in the story. Explain each.
