Additional Info
I'm so sorry girls but I've got laryngitis and a hacking cough so can't be with you today. I am truly gutted.
Keep reading through the rest of Acto 2.
Make sure you can expand on these areas:
- Who is the 'mujer vestida de lentejuelas'. What is Poncia's view? What does she mean by 'los hombres necesitan estas cosas'?
- What's the importance of the coro?
- Explain the symbolism of el sol.
- Look at the acotacion on p48 with Martirio after Adela says 'cada una sabe sus cosas'. -bitterness!
- Reflect on the language and symbolism of Amelia's 'una mulilla sin desbravar' and Martirio's segunda intencion.
- Why doesn't Martirio tell Amelia and her siblings what she knows about Adela? Why drop hints to her and to the others? What stops her?
- Note the reference to dogs again from Bernarda (esto tiene no ataros mas cortas) about her own daughters (during the retrato scene). And then on p56 when she talks about chains
- Bernarda's reaction to Martirio being the one who stole the picture of Pepe (p54) and then how she reacts to La Poncia. Why? (Note what Adela says).
- What do we learn from Bernarda's conversation with Poncia? Note how the past haunts- Martirio, Adelaida, La Poncia, la hija de la Librada- no escape.
- The act ends on a crescendo even more intense than act 1. How do Bernarda, Adela, Martirio react?
Make sure you read the summary for act 3 really carefully.
For the mocks, remember to follow the general structure of a short thesis introduction, 3 main points, a brief one/two lined conclusion (nothing new here). For each of the 3 points- follow PEARL- Point, Evidence, Analysis of the evidence, Relevance to the title and Lorca link- what was his purpose here- contextual link. If there are 2 parts in the question- ensure you answer both parts.
Do book to go see the play in London- you won't regret it!
