OneNote > 04 Hazards > 02 Tropical Cyclones

1. Use the PowerPoint (1. Tropical Cyclones) to complete the worksheet (1. Tropical Cyclones worksheet) that we have been working through in lessons.  All the materials you need are in the PowerPoint, with the exception of the final page of the worksheet, for which you will need to do a little thinking for yourself (think about the things we talked about in the 'Introduction to Hazards' lessons - hazard frequency, magnitude, population/exposure, level of development, vulnerability, length of coastline)

2. Use textbook (Content Library > Textbook Chapters > Hazards) p.85-86, plus the magazine article (2. Typhoon Haiyan WideWorld article Nov 14) to fill in the case study framework on Slide 2 of '2. Typhoon Haiyan'.  Complete all boxes, but the most important bit is the impacts table - this can be done as bullet points, and include facts and figures wherever possible...don't just say 'lots of people died', say '6340 deaths'.  Short term impacts to the left, long term to the right.  Dying is short term, by the way, even though you're dead forever.  Knock on economic impacts (loss of workers) or psychological ones (grief of bereaved) are long term.

3. If you have time, read the article on Typhoon Koppu ('2. Typhoon Koppu article') and do Q3 only on Slide 4.

Remember, homework is the 8-marker on Tropical Cyclones Yasi v Sandy - due Tuesday.
