OneNote > 03 Africa > 07 Horn of Africa

Hello girls.  Sorry I can't be with you in today's lesson.  Please can you complete the following.

1. Read the textbook double page '7.1 Meet the Horn of Africa' (p.118-119).  Remember this can be found in the OneNote Content Library (Horn of Africa folder)

2. Label the map on the worksheet to show the four countries that make up the Horn of Africa, and their capital cities.

3. Use the information in the textbook to colour code the statements on the left hand side of the worksheet by country (e.g. colour code all the statements about Somalia blue etc.).  You will need to Google the flags.

4. Study the table (top right hand corner of worksheet) and use the information to answer Q1 below (e.g. the first gap ('largest') is Ethiopia, because it has the biggest area).

5. Use the information in the table to answer the questions in Q2.  Tips...

a. Add up the areas of Somalia, Eritrea and Djibouti, and subtract this number from Ethiopia's area.
b. Add up the total population of all 4 Horn of Africa countries.  Then divide the population of Ethiopia by this number.  Then multiply the answer by 100.
c. Find the two countries with the GDP numbers that are closest.
d. Add up all the population density figures and then divide the result by 4.
e. Find the highest and the lowest % of people in urban areas.  Subtract the lowest from the highest.

Note - the UK is not in the Horn of Africa!  Don't use UK values in your calculations.  It's only there so you can compare the numbers with somewhere familiar.
