I know we've not had a lesson today, but we've already missed two weeks' of teaching time with various absences/events and I need to use this homework slots to make sure we cover enough ground before the mock.
Complete the 4 marker and 8 marker green box question.
Tips for 4 marker...
- You must be naming specific presentational techniques (e.g. line graph, scattergraph, proportional circles, located pie charts)
- You can use different techniques for the two parts of the question
- Say what data was presented using the technique (e.g. 'I presented data showing ...... using a .....'
- I would generally favour talking about presentation of primary data
- Make sure you explain the benefit to your study (e.g. 'clear visual presentation of variations on sediment size along Bracklesham Bay made it easier to observe and analyse spatial patterns of data') or 'can be constructed quickly, easily and precisely using IT software, therefore giving high levels of confidence in accuracy of presentation and freeing more time for analysis'
Tips for 8 marker...
- 'Methods' (plural), so do more than one - but given time constraints in an exam, suggest just two
- Again, I would probably focus on primary data
- Structure - two paragraphs, one for each presentation technique
- In the first paragraph, give an overview of the technique (what is it called and what data did you present with it?)
- Then do advantages/strengths - aim for two or three, and use language of the question (e.g. 'this increased the effectiveness of presentation because...' or 'this made the presentation more effective because...')
- Then do disadvantages/limitations - aim for one and again use question language ('this limited the effectiveness of the technique because....')
- Then repeat the above three bullet points for presentational technique number 2.
